Department of Environment and Resource Mangement
The Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) is a Qld Govt department charged with the role of managing climate change and protecting the environment. It provides the legislative governance overarching wildlife carer groups and individuals caring for native wildlife.
Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) Qld
RSPCA Qld is a non-government, community-based charity dedicated to protecting the welfare of all animals - great and small. The RSPCA Qld Wildlife Section is concerned with the day-to-day welfare of orphaned, sick and injured native animals, assisting conservation bodies in wildlife issues and promoting responsible pet ownership.
Queensland Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (QWRC)
The Qld Wildlife Rehabilitation Council is the peak representative body for wildlife rehabilitation in Queensland, and provides a collective voice for members.
Wildlife Volunteers Association Inc. (WILVOS)
The WILVOS provide a wildlife rescue phone service to the general public 24 hours a day, seven days a week, covering an area from Gympie to Caboolture on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, to the Hinterland area.
Wildcare Australia is the registered trading name of the Australian Koala Hospital Association Incorporated and was formed in late 1993 by Dr Jonathon Hanger. Based in Nerang, it's activities extend to share borders with the Granite Belt Wildlife Carers Inc.
Fostercare of Australia's Unique Native Nimals Association Inc (FAUNA)
FAUNA volunteers are based in Esk, and are responsible for rescuing, caring for and rehabilitating orphaned, sick or injured native wildlife in the SEQ Qld area.
Wildlife Darling Downs Inc., in consultation with vets, provide professional care and advice in relation to injured or orphaned native animals in the Toowoomba region.
Wildlife Warriors Worldwide Ltd was established in 2002, initially by Steve and Terri Irwin, as a way to include and involve other caring people to support the protection of injured, threatened, or endangered wildlife - from the individual animal to an entire species.
Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc. (WIRES)
WIRES was established in 1985 when an injured ibis was found in the heart of Sydney, in Hyde Park. No organisation, government or conservation could take responsibility for it's rescue or care. Other animal groups at the time, were not equipped to rehabilitate native animals. WIRES quickly established a co-ordinated network of wildlife carers and rescuers. WIRES now operates under a licence issued by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Fourth Crossing Wildlife is an 85 acre property in NSW that is a declared Nature Refuge. There, Linda Dennis rescues, cares for and rehabilitates a wide range of Australian wildlife mammals and birds. Her website is designed, not only to share her native animal experiences from all over Australia, but to also share her knowledge relating to Australian native animals. It holds a wealth of information and resources about caring for not only our fauna, but our plants, habitats and ultimately our planet.
